Law Student Recruiting

You have narrowed your search to law firms with a diverse and sophisticated practice. You want the prestige and breadth of opportunity that a “large” firm environment offers, but you want to be more than a billing unit. You are eager to begin lawyering, but you want your law firm to guide your professional development to fit your individual needs. You want to respect and like the people with whom you work. You want to work with people who are passionate about what they do. Eventually, you hope to build a client base of your own, and you want to join a law firm that will help you to do so. If this describes you, we encourage you to consider applying to Jennings Strouss.

Summer Program

Our summer associate program is our primary mechanism for associate hiring. The students we invite to join us over the summer will get work assignments similar to what our attorneys are doing in various practice areas, including areas of interest to the applicant. Summer associates benefit from extensive mentoring and feedback on their written work product by assigning attorneys and independent attorney reviewers. Summer associates are also encouraged to attend “spectator events” such as trials and hearings, transactional closings, depositions, mediations, and oral arguments. But the summer is not all work. We have various social events to help you and our attorneys get to know each other.

Training

Jennings Strouss has the same commitment to our associates’ professional development as we have for our summer associates. Associate training starts with the basics, like how to fill out time sheets and expense reports, how to set up a filing system, how to work with a secretarial assistant, and where to go for various support services. Following this, there is ongoing, level-appropriate training. This training consists of low-stress, lecture-style and supervised practical training sessions, as well as in-house continuing legal education and department meeting opportunities. In addition, Jennings Strouss offers its associates a one-on-one mentoring program with a senior attorney at the Firm. This is a relationship that we hope will transcend “coaching” and become a deeper, more enduring professional relationship. The mentoring program includes invitations to Firm networking, social and client events to help you initiate your business development skills.
