CityScape Project

Barron Collier Company

Bruce B. May was lead co-counsel for Barron Collier Company, one of the private developers on the CityScape project in Phoenix, Arizona. CityScape is said to be one of Phoenix's most anticipated new mixed-use project and is the largest private investment project in the history of Downtown Phoenix. The project included the development of a more than a half-million square feet of office space and nearly a quarter-million square feet of retail space, together with two boutique hotels, several condominium units and a public park.

As lead counsel for Barron Collier Company, the owner of the largest land holding in Downtown Phoenix, Mr. May has been active in negotiations and re-negotiations of development and disposition agreements with City of Phoenix staff in order to facilitate the agreement of office, condo and hotel uses as well as incidental real property issues and incidental political issues raised by alternative approaches.

Mr. May became familiar both with the personal dynamic and the political pressures that the City of Phoenix staff and Phoenix City Council faced when attempting to create, essentially from scratch, a viable city center suitable for a city of Phoenix's size.

CityScape's first phase is scheduled to open in 2009 with most construction completed by 2011.
